Apple has $25 Billion in the bank, with no debt

Apple just Reported its Fourth Quarter Results… Interesting and amazing numbers!

Some of the highlights

  • Apple reached its goal of selling 10 million iPhones in 2008
  • Apple sold more iPhones this quarter than RIM did Blackberry’s
  • Apple sold more Macs this quarter (2.6 million) than they did in any other previous quarter
  • Apple set a record for most iPods sold in a non-holiday quarter
  • Apple will sell its 200 millionth app from the iPhone app store tomorrow

From the Apple press release, Steve Jobs noted:

“Apple just reported one of the best quarters in its history, with a spectacular performance by the iPhone—we sold more phones than RIM. We don’t yet know how this economic downturn will affect Apple. But we’re armed with the strongest product line in our history, the most talented employees and the best customers in our industry. And $25 billion of cash safely in the bank with zero debt.”

Apple now has an 8% marketshare

Based on statistics of Internet usage - 8% of people now access the Internet on a Mac. This is up from 2-3% only a few years ago! What is more interesting to think about is this obviously des not include Macs that are not on the Internet. Next time ‘corporate’ asks - “Should we make it for the Mac?” - Saying know to 8 percent is not as easy as 2-3%.

Ration - Internet usage meter for Australian Mac users

Ration is an app that I have been looking for - for a while! It is an Internet usage meter for Australian Mac users.

It is currently in a private beta, but in 2 Days will be available as a public beta for download…

It will apparently start off supporting Optusnet + TPG + Internode + iiNet, and later Bigpond + “Many Others”.

New iPods+iTunes 8+nano Pics!!!

On Tuesday Apple announced a complete refresh of third entire iPod line. This included the 2nd gen iPod touch, 4th gen iPod nano and refreshed colours for the 2nd gen iPod shuffle.

Being the apple fiend that I am, I bought a product (red) iPod nano at the Apple Store Sydney (a few block away from where I work!!). It is the same height/width as the 1st and 2nd gen nano, but is even thinner and very curved all around.

It has some great new features and enhancements. Apple as also paid special attention to the environmental impact that iPods have. There is now an option to have spoken menus. The cool thing about this is it speaks every item including song titles, and it “ducks” the now playing music so you can hear it speaking. It uses the standard twxt to speach voice on the syncing computer, but you can change this.

I will post up some photos of the nano soon. Very niiice…
